ACIM Monk: Now on ‘Twitter’

acimmonk-twitterI have opened a Twitter account at twitter.com/acimmonk. Visit it  by clicking on the small blue “t” in the Monk sidebar box that looks like the blue “t” to the left. It will open in a new page.

Twitter is “micro-blogging”, which means your post cannot be more than 140 characters (or about three lines).

My Twitter posts will feature a fictional monk/ACIM student, and will follow his daily exploits, hijinx, forgiveness lessons, forgiveness failures, inner process and life around his monastery.

Little known fact: In March 2008 I opened a Twitter account and planned to micro-blog in addition to the main blog. Some technical issues prevented me from incorporating it into the website, so I just made a very plain page, called it “the monastery blog”, and planned on using it to briefly update readers on the latest blog announcements. Very soon the blogs started getting longer and longer (oops), and not about announcements at all, but about my process. That is, exactly like the main blog. When I had a professional web developer implement my design requests, I merged the two blogs into one. So this foray into Twitter-land actually began a long time ago when Twitter was still a hatchling, but the outcome of that initial experiment produced some nice results (some 300 posts that otherwise wouldn’t have been written).

ACIM Monk, congratulations on this new means of communication! Are you going to drag, seduce or induce me to enter the 21st Century, technology-wise? I still have arguments with my cell phone that rival the battles that Calvin used to have with Hobbes (cartoon characters). Hope your first love will remain the blog, for us ancient folk who learned typing in highschool (the only thing I learned of value in later life), and enjoy using a classic keyboard.

Good Idea! Now we have another place to go for a brief update of the right mind.

  3. acimmonk whispered:

Thanks Will and Lisi. The thinking behind this was to add content to the monastery, and content with a slight twist from the norm, so it’s not all so metaphysical. Since a new window would pop up when you click on the “t”, it won’t close the monastery page. And my original idea was to have the “tweets” shown right here on the monastery blog in its own box — I have my developer working on that tonight, will know by morning if it’s do-able. Goodnight y’all. :)

    Note the new-and-improved whispers section:

~ Now your name can be as long as you want, and it won’t force the text down an extra line.

~ The 10 latest whispers will always be shown, each on one line.

~ You can see the first few words of each whisper before you click on it. (Now you click the name to read the whisper.)

~ If you still want to see the title of the post that is being whispered about, just put your mouse on the name of the person whispering (without clicking) and it will pop up.

I will be posting a Whispers in the Cloister post sometime in the next few days to point out all the practical tweaks and additions to the blog. Lots has been going on behind-the-scenes.

It’s been a month since we’ve been back up and by this time next week I should have all the old issues fixed, old posts posted, the new tweaks and additions completed, and finally ready to move forward.

  5. Anne in TX whispered:

I’ll twitter if you will, ya’ll…

  6. Misty Meadow Musings whispered:

    Twitter?
Good Grief, Charlie Brown. Woodstock must have put you up to this. It’s just the sort of thing that silly bird would be into. Do you have any idea the problems this will create?

I can just hear it now – the rumblings from the Misty Meadow:

“Where is she? Haven’t seen her all day.”

“I don’t think she was here yesterday, either.”

“What is keeping her? Is she ill?”

“Another computer thing. Something to do with a bird, this time.”

“A what? We’re being neglected, ignored, starved and abused because of a bird?”

    “I’m hungry”

    “We’re all hungry”

    “But I’m really hungry”

“Well, stop complaining. Take it like a llama. You could stand to loose some weight, anyway”.

    “Watch it !!!”

“I’ve heard that spending hours in front of a computer is unhealthy for the young brains and I wonder if it speeds the decay of older brains as well. And we know she’s no spring chicken.”

“What’s a “spring chicken?” Anything like a llama?”

“Maybe this is something we can all participate in?”

“Maybe. Something about ‘only 140 characters.’”

“Goodie. We’d fit. We’re only 9 characters, and one of us is invisible so he could get in for free.”

“No, silly. Not that kind of character. Means very brief comments.”

“Uh oh. Wouldn’t work for Spatz; he’s very chatty.”

“Indeed, my friend. And for good reason. I have much wisdom to share. But, sadly, she’s not interested in my bon mots anymore. She’s way too busy with all this Monastery material.”

“Speaking of the Monastery, isn’t that part of The Course in Miracles?”

    “Believe so.”

“Well, I’ve heard that according to this Course, we don’t exist. We’re not real.”

“What do you mean we don’t exist? Speak for yourself !”

“What about this twitter bird thingie?”

“That’s not a real bird, silly. Just another kind of computer distraction.”

    “Oh boy. We’re screwed”

“And by a bird that doesn’t even exist.”

“Are we going to put up with this?”

“I say we break out of the pasture and storm her house. Eat all her plants. . . . . . . . .”

    See what you’ve started, Jamie.
Nothing quite like a herd of pissed-off llamas.
You do know they spit, don’t you?

    Love from the Mists,
    Cynthia
